Getting this message when I try to update

I have tried repeatedly over the past week to install upgrades but keep getting this message—'Installer was unable to access a critical file/directory. Please try installing again.(Error code: 43) Contact Customer Support'—trying to put my question to 'customer support" but all I get is a set of generic options that keep looping. How do I get a human to answer my question and sort out my problem?

Help!
